West Virginia’s Mountaineers served up turtle soup to the Maryland Terrapins Saturday when they crushed them 45-6. This marks the 9th time in the last 10 meetings we’ve toppled our border-state rivals.
And you couldn’t have asked for a better, more exciting game. Right before the Mountaineers made their entrance onto the field, country music star and West Virginia native Brad Paisley came out to sing “Country Roads.”
The last time a musician sang that state anthem on Mountaineer Field was in 1980 when John Denver himself came to Morgantown to sing it.
This year’s team has a real fire in their belly and it’s beautiful to watch. From the sound of the musket shot that triggers the start of the game, the Mountaineers came out ready to pounce on the terps in front of a packed stadium.
